Lost Basin Mining District

The Lost Basin mining districts of northwestern Arizona are in Mohave County, 120 km southeast of Las Vegas, NV, and about 95 km north of Kingman. This district comprises primarily gold bearing deposits. The principal gold veins were discovered in 1886. The King Tut placers discovered in 1931 were the only reserves recorded. G.E. Pitts in 1932 delineated that 90,000 tons of indicated reserves, and 250,000 tons of probably reserves before mining operations began (Mining Journal, 1933, page 10). By 1942, no additional production was recorded from the Lost Basin Mining District. In the 1960's several small operators using dry washers were active in the general area of the King Tut placers.
